Georgia | A rising star in the U.S. market

Marq Wine Group has been leading the U.S. strategy for the “Wines of Georgia” / National Wine Agency, Department of Agriculture for the country of Georgia since the end of 2015. During this time, exports of Georgian wines to the U.S. have experienced an average year-over-year growth rate over five years of 29+% (“fast growth” is considered anything over 20%).

And there are no signs of slowing down. Despite the pandemic rattling the global supply chains, imports of Georgian wines to the U.S. continued to thrive with 19% growth in volume.

We also focus on the “value” objective, working to increase the average bottle price at a sustainable level each year. And once again, in 2021 we saw a slight uptick with the average ex-cellar more than double the price found in Georgia’s traditional export markets. As the American Association of Wine Economists wrote on February 28th, 2021: “Georgia has continued its amazing run.”

Georgian wines have been cited as the “wines to watch” by Wine Enthusiast, Forbes, and Food and Wine Magazine, and other industry publications. For more background on the wines from Georgia, please go to WinesGeorgia.

“Julie and her team applied methods of continual communication, amplification, and improvement, and the needle started to move right way. From the sampling system to the consolidated shipping program, Marq removed market barriers for Georgian wine producers and created a systematic pathway for growth. We trusted the strategy, coordinated with the team on the execution, and the results prove that their system works.”

-Irakli Cholobargia, Former Head of Marketing & PR of the Georgian National Wine Agency

Provence | How the U.S. “caught” rosé fever

Marq Wine Group led the US strategy for the Wines of Provence over a ten-year period to develop a sustainable market for the rosé category in the U.S. market. And wow…what a category that turned out to be.

Through our work with Wines of Provence, exports grew from 300,000 liters in 2008 to over 20 million by 2018. Average bottle prices were also achieving sustained growth, bringing the market value from $3.4 million to $132 million over this period. This growth was marked by the introduction of new producers into the market while deepening of distribution of producers in the market. Starting with 32 producers exporting to the US in 2008 to over 300 producers in the market by 2018. The continued sustained growth in the market redefined category development and leadership with Wine Enthusiast highlighting this achievement in 2011 by nominating Provence “Wine Region of the Year”.

“Growth of the dry rosé category following the leadership of Provence is the most successful sustainable category growth in the last 20 years.”

— Head of the Nielsen’s Wine and Food Research Division
